MATERIALS

PLYWOOD

Plywood is the primary material used at Archetype and as this is a natural material there can be variations in colour/tone, grain pattern and board characteristics. Please see the below details for standard variations in plywood boards - these are not defects and are not a reason for return. As standard, we use a B/BB grade Birch Plywood as the standard for items.

PATCHES

Knots in the ply material are removed and replaced with a flush oval or “butterfly” cut patch. The grade of plywood from the manufacturer (for example A, B, BB, C) will include a guide on the maximum number allowed on a sheet - the higher the grade the lower the number allowed. We use B/BB grade and while you can sometimes get lucky and not have a single patch, others may have multiple on one face.

EDGE GRAIN

Plywood is manufactured by laying multiple thin sheets on top of each other to reach its final thickness. As patches are only applied on the outer decorative faces, it can mean knots cause small air gaps within the sheet. When cutting individual parts from the sheet, one of these voids may be visible along the edge of the piece. We do not fill these voids as standard, and they do not impact the structural integrity of the product.

GRAIN / TONE

Plywood is a natural timber product and as such can have variations in grain and tone based on a number of factors. This can include the weather, age and location of the trees sourced for the sheet. While we aim to consistently source boards from the same supplier, material shortages may lead us, or the supplier to source from a different company, which may also lead to variations.

If you are not familiar with Plywood and its characteristics, we can arrange a time for you to visit the factory and see a sample of the boards used. Depending on your location, you may also have a local timber supplier that can provide samples.

PRODUCT ORDERS

Currently, Archetype products are made to order and we do not offer instant online purchase through our website - all orders are discussed via email and quoted directly. See the details listed below for general order terms. As items are made to order, there can be some variation to the details listed below, but please use this as an initial guide.

STANDARD ORDERS

Items that are purchased without any customisation (size, materials, engraving etc) require full payment if under $2500 value. If above $2500 in value, payment may be split into an initial deposit at the time of order with an outstanding balance to be paid before dispatch. Orders will not be dispatched or available for customer pickup until full payment has been made.

CUSTOM ORDERS

A minimum 50% deposit is required before starting any custom product orders. This becomes non-refundable once materials have been purchased, unless said materials can be used for standard products. Once work has begun, should the job be cancelled, the client/customer is responsible for any labour costs accrued at that time.
